Assignment #4

What is "New Media?" Well it depends on who you ask. I personally believe that New Media is basically recreating old technologies. Society has a knack for instant gratification. We need everything in a “New York Minute” and can’t wait a second longer. These new media outlets thrive on feeding off this obsession the masses have with instant gratification. I remember the good old times when I would actually get a holiday card for the holidays. Now I get holiday wishes via three portals Facebook, Twitter and my cell which is another “New Media” on to itself. On it I can currently check my Facebook and Twitter updates. I can check for IMs on AOL, gChat, and now BBMs (Blackberry Messenger). Talk about a battery life. In a way it’s become quite addictive to the point where I’m constantly checking my blackberry (bb). However, I also believe this addiction society has for receiving news the second it happens is something we brought on to ourselves. Everything happens so quickly these days that we can’t truly value precious moments in our lives. Before we know it we look back at our lives trying to figure where time went. The answer, it flew by with that like a “New York Minute.”
